Preliminary Summer Events Dates

Here are the dates for England, and the possible dates for Hahobas.

Essex, England

The camp at Essex, England is from 7/26/2008 to 8/2/2008, Saturday to Saturday. We would likely fly from SeaTac several days earlier (7/24? 7/25?) and return several days later (8/3? 8/4? 8/5?).

Hahobas

There are 5 different sessions of Camp Hahobas for 2008. We need to pick one.
Session 1: 7/6 to 7/12
Session 2: 7/13 to 7/19
Session 3: 7/20 to 7/26 (interferes with beginning of Essex)
Session 4: 7/27 to 8/2 (directly conflicts with Essex)
Session 5: 8/3 to 8/9 (interferes with end of Essex)

Summer Camp at Hahobas

7/29 Meet at church (approx 10 or 11 am). Drive to camp
8/4 return from camp (approx 1pm or 2pm)

Camp Hahobas
There is a more complete version of the pamphlet about Hahobas that I handed out. The location is www.hahobas.org (well, that's the main page. The guidebook is at this link.

We will be sleeping in tents ... tents that we will be bringing. We need to figure out who will be in what tents.

Food will be served to us at the camp dining hall.

One way of getting there is to go east on 512, take the Steele St exit, north on Steele, right on Sales Rd (east). Parkland Putters will be on the right.

Another way of getting there is go south on Hosmer street. At 96th street it becomes S Steele street. Continue past 102nd St. until you see Sales Rd ... take a left.

Monday 5/28 No Meeting

We are NOT having a meeting on Monday 5/28.

Workin' as a Car-wash-er

Thanks to all that came out and got wet last Saturday, as we raised money for two Cub Scout Packs.

Thanks to Jim E for bringing his grill out ... those were mighty fine sausages you cooked.

And big thanks to Dan of Dan Marek Insurance for letting us use his lot (even after we drowned his basement last time.) (We won't do it again, Dan.)

Upcoming Events

PLC meeting: Jeff, Tyler, Gavin, Eric Enderby attended. Well, Jody, Jim, Mike & Becky were there too...

Outings

Car wash coming up this Saturday May 5. 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. I mis-spoke at the troop meeting ... this car wash is a Good Turn opportunity ... we are raising money for some Cub Scout packs. Still, it should be fun. Lunch (hot dogs & soda, at least) will be provided.

Swimming at YMCA ... one June 12 5pm - 7pm. At the Y on Orchard, between south 12th and 6th ave.

May 19: Fishing for boys 15 and younger, older boys. More details to come.
On the same day, for those ready for a challenge ... camping to Lena Lake May 19-20. This is a backpacking trip ... at least 7 miles one way. You must have good shoes and be ready to carry your own gear. You may want to partner up to share the load for things like tents, lightweight stoves. Saturday ... we will meet at the church, drive to the trailhead, hike in, set up camp. From there, more hiking (w/o packs). Sunday ... strike camp, hike back to trailhead & drive home.

Tentative troop meeting plans:

May 7: Knots & Lashing. Obstacle course. Merit badges ... at least Citizenship in World, Citizenship in Nation beginning
May 14: Knife/Axe training. Tent setup in the dark (curious? come and see...). Continuing Citizenship MBs
May 21: Mini-golf 6pm at Parkland Putters.
May 28: No meeting - Memorial Day
June 4: Fingerprinting? Plumbing?

I've edited the "new" web-site a little, adding a link to this blog, and removing Mike Leister's information. Sigh ... we will miss you, Mike. (He left the state due to his job.)
